 CAGD 470 Blog 1:

From a modeler's perspective, the process of making our game Stat Master has gone well so far. First, I’ll talk about how the team, and I have been working together. One of the things we did well for the sprint was being able to communicate well with each other, whether that's talking about when our cards will be finished or what we’ll be doing next in the upcoming sprints. When it comes to what went wrong, I don’t think anything has gone wrong and we would like to keep it that way. Our goal is to have smooth progression the whole way to have a nice, polished game.

One of the issues that may popup for me is the actual character modeling which I haven’t done before, so it looks like I'm going to have to watch a lot of tutorials. One good thing about this is that I will kind of learn the process of sculpting in zBrush.

Now, let's dive into sprint kickoff and what I was assigned for the sprint. One of the first cards that I was assigned was a bow and arrow. For this one, I gathered some references and picked one that would fit the theme of our game. For this bow, I had no problems and I actually liked how the bow came out. It did look a little different than the reference, but it still came out good. When it came out to texturing, I thought I was going to have some trouble because I’m not the best when it comes to finding textures that look right together but it actually came out better than I thought.

The next card that I was supposed to do was a sword which will serve as a weapon for the player. For this one I thought the sword came out ok, but it could have been better in terms of looks. When it came to texturing, I could have also done a little better to have a wider variety of colors to make it pop more.

The last card that I was assigned was a model of a crossbow which was also a pretty simple but fun card to do. I feel like I got the look of it spot on and I wouldn’t change anything about it. The look and textures of the model fit very nice, and I think it fits our aesthetic of the game perfectly.

That was the work that I was assigned and I the did not have any other work to complete so that shows that I can do more work which I will let my producer know to assign my at least one more model so I can be a bit more productive.

The card I’m currently working on is a model of a health syringe. I was assigned a stat syringe, but I already finished that the first day sprint two started.

One thing I learned from this sprint is I should always take one more card than I’m used to, so that I can test my limits to see if I can actually get those cards done.

In conclusion, the process of developing Stat Master has been smooth, thanks to effective teamwork and communication. Despite encountering new challenges like character modeling, the team and I remain adaptable, I Will be learning from tutorials and embracing opportunities for growth. Each task completed in the recent sprint, from crafting weapons to refining textures, has provided valuable experience for myself. Looking ahead, the team is eager to continue pushing boundaries, taking on more tasks to enhance productivity and personal development. The only thing we are working for as a team is to work together effectively and produce a well-polished game.
