CAGD 170- Playtest 1

3/26/2022

Below are a list of games I playtest from the different groups.

Group 2: Acre Caper (This game consists of two players playing as a farmer and a poacher.)

Group 4: Road Magic

Group 5: Think Fast Fries Rule Sheet

Group 8: Unnamed

I will be choosing group 8's game although they don't have a name or if they just forgot to add it, it is still an interesting game

Formal Elements

  • The first element will be Players:
    • There will be a number of two players for this game, so the player interaction pattern will be player versus player. When it comes to the role of the players their only job is to advance through the game picking up cards and rolling the correct number.
  • The second element is objective:
    • The whole objective of the game is to acquire 3 mini marshmallow cards. The way to hold these cards is if you have a player board which will be provided to you at the start of the game. I would say this is a mix of capture and exploration because your job as a player is to get the marshmallow cards but it takes you on an adventure throughout the game
  • The third element is Procedures:
    • Throughout the game the player is required to draw a card from the challenge deck which will have a prompt on it which is almost always a roll requirement
    • If the player is able to roll the correct number they will be able to choose a card from the reward deck which can be placed on the player board.
  • The fourth element is Rules:
    • First rule is a player is only allowed to hold 3 rewards cards at a time. Also if a player pulls a new reward card that they like better they may switch it with theirs.
    •  Another rule is players may trade their reward cards with each other.
    • Another rule to add is that if the player is unable to meet the challenge requirements they must put one of their reward cards back in the deck, but only if they have one available. If they don't, nothing happens and is the next players turn.
  • The fifth element is Resources:
    • Action: Each player will pull one card each turn from the challenge deck to roll the correct number or just complete the challenge.
    • Lives: There is no amount of lives in this game, its just whoever gets 3 mini marshmallow cards first wins.
    • Power-ups: There isn't really power-ups in this game but it allows you to use certain cards for an advantage towards your opponent. For example one of the cards in called ancient thief hand and its a card that allows you to steal a reward card from the other player.

  • The sixth element is conflict:
    • As mentioned above some of the obstacles in this game is drawing from the challenge card deck and doing the challenge correctly to get a reward.
    • The main source of conflict in this game is your opponent as they have the ability to sabotage your game and are able to gain the advantage on you.
  • The seventh element is boundaries:
    • The only boundary I can think of is just staying on the player board and playing the game correctly using the different challenge cards along with the reward cards which can be used for yourself and against your opponent.
  • The last and final element is outcome:
    • The outcome of the game is that after a player has acquired three mini marshmallow cards, it means they have survived and won the game.
Also not related just wanted to say I like the different sketches on the cards and think its a fun addition to the cards.
